You may have TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues where your jaw can be put out of alignment with your skull. I developed it after being in a car accident and I can (and sometimes must) put my jaw back into proper alignment... often with a loud and clearly audible *snap*.

FWIW - If you have TMJ problems, it won't mess with you much. Occasionally a headache, that's about it.
