His Vegas issue has everything to do with it. The ACLU will and often does defend religious individuals and organizations when one of their rights have been violated. The Vegas issue was just a case in point where they did so.
Yes it is very easy to hate the ACLU, afterall they do defend the most dispicable and outright offensive speech possibly imagined, yet this type of speech was exactly why the bill of rights was written.
Do they sue to have a seperation between church and state? Yes for damn sure they do and should. Now perhaps if you think for a minute or a few years you may relize that maybe the ACLU is trying to prevent the very thing you are concerned about. A Government ran and controlled by fanatical religious nutcases who will announce a religious war against another, i.e. Jihad.
