There are actually 4 different types of accounts that most hosting companies offer:

1. Virtual Hosting - this is a powerful server where you are one of many accounts typically about 50/server - these are usually the REALLY cheap plans you see for $10/month, these servers tend to not have the best performance as they run tons of scripts and any 1 single user can kill the entire server with a bad script

2. Shared Hosting / Shared Server / VPS ( Virtual Private Server / Semi Dedicated - this is also a powerful server that is similar to virtual hosting but will have only a few accounts usually up to a max of 4/6/8/10 per server instead of 50 with virtual hosting. Typically you get the same feeling and stability as a dedicated server but if your needs are not great then this is the perfect solution. You dont always get root access though, but 90% of the time you dont need it

3. Dedicated Hosting - The entire server is your own

4. Reseller Hosting - This is typically any of the above 3 types but you brand it in your own company logo/image and resell the main providers hosting

Hope this clears it up for you

In other words, semi-dedicated is a shared dedicated server, our servers go up to a maximum of 8 accounts / machine if you are on SM1 and up to 4 accounts if you are on SM4 or higher.
You get the advantages of a dedicated server, fully customizable, great speeds, and fast hardware at a cheap cost

Contact me directly and I can recommend which package would be best for you
