Things I learned (and am still learning) about Online traffic and being a webmaster....

1. Confuse "pretty" or "neat" designs with ability to convert

2. Neglect the power of an overall coherent ad strategy

3. Neglect to factor in the referrer URL of traffic in positiong the product or formulating the landing page

4. Shy away from spending $ on custom-built software

5. Fail to think long-term.

6. Fail to look at my marketing materials from the perspective of an actual consumer.

7. Hit an ad strategy that converts and STOP innovating.

8. Wait for traffic crashes or sponsor crashes to push my ass in gear to actually fine tune my traffic strategy so that I make more $ with less traffic or newer sponsors.

9. Being afraid to try new approaches

10. Being afraid to look at traffic from FIRST PRINCIPLES (ie., ask yourself, 'what is traffic?' 'where does it come from?' 'why does it go to my site?' "who are my customers" etc. etc) -- seems silly but sometimes taking a fresh look at things we take for granted may yield new opportunities and open doors to higher levels...

11. Being cocky and not realizing that I am constantly learning and will never "know everything."
