Because the majority of influence society has had on them is broad generalizations of ignorant message board posts since few have little life beyond that message board.
Even though they will argue fiercely to deny it. If you werent ashamed of the life you live, then why argue so fiercely to portay an image of popularity, if you were comfortable with your own self worth you would feel no need to argue or prove yourself to anyone.
