Those rates above are close for big cities. We pay a bit less, but other WM's I've talked to in Michigan are in that ballpark for their stuff.
Best case scenerio, you want to do it on number of sets in a shoot. For example, we shoot them for 5-6 sets. So each model, solo or paired you shoot for the number of sets period. Why sets? Because if you have a "time" sometimes they will fuck around in a shoot, and it will run longer than expected. So you want to make sure you get your money's worth, and also give them the motivation to keep it moving as fast as possible.
You will also want to do both video, and digital camera stills if possible. Both for quality, and different angles, and so on. Even with best gear, viddcaps are still vidcaps.
If you can find some people who will let you shoot at their houses, then go that angle versus studios. Also, make sure you have GOOD LIGHTING. Makes an enormous difference in end product. Depending on location, and budget, try and shoot midday if you are using a house, or outside for best lighting. Always easier to darken versus having to lighten.
You can find girls anywhere.. if you are in a college town, advertise in college papers. If you are on the net chats, make a handle like "hiring models, model search', or some variant. Go to fetish, adult, or whatever rooms. You can also snag them at clubs, and so on.
Get business cards. Something with a url for the sie you are hiring for, or some kinda web presence. Some will go check it out before commiting. This is both good and bad, but helps cut out the flakes.
