They just dont freeze it. They send you an internal email advising you that they need additional documentation (they provide a list of what you can use). They give you x amount of days to take care of it (I don't recall the exact time frame but at least a week).
Its pretty painless. I scanned the docs and emailed them a jpg of the scan. My account never ceased to work during the process.
