It doesn't say that the elected representatives of the people cant govern and make decisiosn based on religious values. If the people dont like their values, they shouldn't vote for them. If they are elected, that means the majority of the people have the same or similiar values.
The constitution is often misinterpreted or misrepresented by politics.
It says that congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of religion.
