he problem these days is that any idiot with a digi cam is becoming a 'content provider' - which is really sad.
I think the whole debate about equiptment is shit - IE resizes photos anyhow.
I think a good 'eye' is better than an expensive camera anyday

The problem is with the words "discerning" and "any idoit with a digi cam".
We have Unseen posting a picture of a girl who is clearly bored and arguing about the choice of the editor of Barley Legal, not a "Glossy" mag as he keeps telling us. Which again reveals his knowledge. Who do you think knows more about porno?
The problem I have, is newbies that come into this business and listen to some of what is said. Then lose money and disappear. The surfer with money does know the difference and a lot are coming from magazines, where else are they from. They will not take a drop in standard just because this is the Internet. Nor is the "BIG" market on the fringes and fetishes, if we all go there we will flood that market as well. That market is good for a few, the majority of us have to produce quality and the right fantasy. With Teen, Amateur, Girl next door, it is not the girl just looking at the camera showing her pussy. In fact very little of this business is about that. What are we? Chefs or Butchers.
There are too many content providers telling us that the right thing to buy is what they are ONLY capable of shooting. We can and do shoot very "bad" amateur pictures. Who do you think shoots the "Readers Wives" polaroids in the mags, boyfriends? Not all editors trust what comes in through the post, it's shot by professionals on castings. So I can move over to a style that looks like the boyfriend shot it, easily. Look at our amateur section this was mostly shot by a guy that does advertising and calendars. He also can change style to "Amateur". It sells very well.
Tried lots of cameras before settling for the Nikon D1X. The problem with the others were their speed. We sometimes need to shoot fast. With a strobe light and no digital could handle that except the Nikon. Normally we are shooting @ a rate of 1 pic every 3-5 seconds and shoot until the chip is full, 250 meg, so normally end up with 3 full discs. This give us 300 images which is normal for shooters like us. With some of the slower cameras they could not get anywhere near this speed and quality/file size.
But to be honest still prefer slides, we shoot a lot of the time with two shooters one on digital the other with slide film. When we scan off a good slide the image is far superior.
Sorry for the long answer but when idiots keep going on and on I have to answer. That includes me. If they were confident about their work they would not be so touchy about what I say. They insult my work I do not care, except that some newbies will listen and think they are right. They insult me personally, I care even less.
