My basal rate is around 2500kcal, but I'm a pretty big guy (6'1"). The smaller you are and older you are, the less calories you need to maintain... which unfortunately also means the less food you need to eat or more exercise you need to engage in to maintain weight. I try to counterbalance my desk-jockey lifestyle with at least a half hour on my eliptical trainer daily, and by drinking a bunch of caffienated stuff (mostly in tea form) which ostensibly pumps my metabolism up.
