I totally agree with the logic of that statement, but for reasons that surpass understanding, the best retaining sites I promote offer downloadable video clips and put their galleries in zip format so the members can download them with one click.

Granted these sites are doing this with their own exclusive content, so that has a lot to do with the retention. However, some of these sites have zero feeds, only their own content which a broadband user could download during the trial period easily, but they retain month after month.
Feeds are great, but to really know what your members are getting you need to demo them yourself on a dial up connection. Alot of users want downloadable content simply because it takes them 30 minutes to download a 5 minute clip, and if they have some favorites they don't want to wait 30 minutes every time they want to see it.
