A text link site running less than 120% productivity can only grow as fast as it makes loyal bookmarkers. At 80%, for every trade hit in the max you can send to another trade is .8 ... You'll need X amount of bookmarker traffic to support Y amount of trades with such low productivity. The quality of your gallery and trade descriptions count big time here. Make sure you've got quality, descriptive text. Nobody clicks "big boob movies" over the next link reading "Massive size natural titties bounced around while plowed with knobby cock". Simple, Simon. I doubt you have a text based site (like the hun), and if you do I'd suggest thumbs instead. It's easier to get enough clicks to actually grow.

Thumbnail site is basically the same, but you SHOULD be able to get 180-200% prod . The biggest have productivity of 250% or more in some cases. Don't be afraid to drop a trade with bad productivity. Don't sweat the loss of 1000 hits a day if those 1000 hits only click 400 links on your site. It's a bad deal, dump it.

Quality of thumbs is everything. Remember, you're skimming for trades from gallery hits, you REALLY want people to click those thumbs. Make 'em look great. For example, check out my site http://www.teeniegirlgalleries.com .. It's been up about 3 weeks and went from 0 traffic to 30K steady, over night. Basically, all hosted galleries too. The thumbs are killer quality, people click click click. I'm already seeing 170% overall productivity, with only 5K bookmarkers and some not-so-great trades that are just fillers until I find better.

Look for sites around your size on counters (sexlist, sexcounter, sextraffic) and trade with them. If their prod is bad, get rid of it. If you trade with sites that are too big or too small for your site, your trades won't maintain. Sleazy Dream, for instance, probably can't manage a trade of 1000 hits. It's just too little. You trade with the larger sites as you move up the list.

Try lots of trades. A LOT of sites allow you to sign up and just start sending. Try a few each day. If the productivity is no good, 86 it and try another.

Instead of setting your site for 60% trade across the board, consider staggering it down. If a surfer clicks on the top row of thumbs, and gets 3 galleries and 2 trades, he'll likely stop clicking. Make the top row of the first table 100% to galleries (this is different than first-click-always type settings that sends the first click to galleries). Your surfer clicks the top 5 thumbs (which should be sorted by productivity) and get's 5 galleries. Excellent. Now he'll click elsewhere on the page to. I personally do something like 100% to galleries on first row, 90% on second, 80% on third, 70% on fourth, 60% rest of that table all of the next. Third table all at 55% and fourth table all at 50%. If they get down to the last table of thumbs, chances are they're clicking madly. In the end, it averages out to ABOUT 60% skim, but I find it generates more clicks.

Anyway, there's my late night essay on some basics. Basically, worry about your productivity before you buy any traffic. You can't support trades on 80% and they'll die when your feeder traffic does.
