Shaq won't get the MVP because the Lakers had a bit of an off year (for them, that is) and he did spend a bit of time on the pines with the injuries. He's definitely the league's most dominant player, but this was not his finest year, no matter how you look at it.
Kidd is a good selection, I think - look at the Nets this year vs. last. Sure, their other acquisitions helped, too, but Kidd makes the whole show go.
Duncan won the IBM MVP award, which is based on a strictly statistical analysis of the major stats areas (rebounds, points, assists, blocks, steals - maybe others, too not sure). The MVP voters have historically leaned heavily on stats, so he might win based on that.
