fusionx, you seem to have studdied this issue pretty well ;) As far as I'm concerned I don't need to change the functionality of wordpress; just a nice custom template integrating the appropriate tags.
brujah, elance is the top of the line freelance marketplace and I don't think anything compares to it quality wise. They are pretty selective and their high pricing discourages the less serious providers from participating.
The only "negative" is that they have driven prices higher and so its difficult to find cheap deals on elance.
Which is why sites like scriptlance of rentacoder are able to coexist, providing a much cheaper alternative, with all the drawbacks that come with that. I find there are still good programmers on those second tier services, but they are just much harder to find as a buyer, and generally lack the professionalism of those on elance.
