Once you're hit across the head like that taken off guard, you can't fight back.
The guys standing watching are no different than most of us on this board. Most of us would have done exactly as they did, as horrific as it seems. Why? Fear. Other people might not help you as you try to stop him and you're going to get beaten next. He might pull a gun. He might this or he might that.
