It usually takes people a few minutes to go brush their teeth after eating anyway...

Some idea of not drinking anything other than water after you've brushed your teeth for a short while so the fluids in your mouth can give your teeth and gums a layer of protection / fill in grooves where sugars could then easily get into, or if hot liquid, burn and damage.
