Sponsors, and their retention ability

Oh no, not another thread about sponsors, shit man!!

No, I just have a few questions and observances, and I am hoping that some of the more experienced webmasters will offer input. No big deal.

I'm just wondering..... there are a lot of big companies that have 50 or more sites to promote, but from the standpoint of the surfer, just how much "bang for the buck" can one really expect at some of these sites? Like ARS for example... They have a bazillion sites for us to promote and lots of suggested text to use to say how great all their sites are, but just how great are they? If any of you have wanked on in to a rendom pay site and had a look-see, let me know what you thought. Was it worth the membership fee? If so, why?

I have a webmaster's pass to bangbus.com, and the thing I see in there that would "hook" the member to recur is the regular updates of new stuff. The retention rate is pretty good, but I see other sponsors of mine that really just plain suck at retaining members beyond the first month. Some sponsors would like to blame me for that, saying my traffic sucks or whatever, but is it me and my sites or is it the sponsor's sites themselves? I mean, if the sponsor's site isn't "all that and a bag of chips", then isn't that the reason the new member won't rebill? Plus, if you have 50 sites to update, is the surfer to assume that all 50 sites are going to be updated enough to warrant another $39.95 for another month?

Some sponsors seem to be able to rebill certain members for 6 to 12 months or more, yet others seem to have problems retaining a member beyond even 1 month! What about www.thewetlands.com ? I know a few of you guys are long-timers that are or have promoted them. Can anyone offer input on them as to their effectiveness in 2002? If so, provide me your referral code and I'll sign up under you.

Comments, please..... lots of informed comments. Thanks.
