Closet downloaders are the worst. You are wrong about the free music coming only from unknown artists. I run into many artists who have best seller CD's in the stores who don't care if you download their music on the internet. Also, there are artists from the past whose music has been stashed away from the public and you can't find it at Tower Records and Blockbuster. They are happy that fans have found their music on the internet and are sharing it with a new audience.
