if so man, pushups and situps won't get you very far at all
if you're just looking to lose some fat or whatever it's fine if you do enough per day... it's mainly about diet in that situation.
but muscle mass, yeah you have to force your muscles to grow with significant resistance, bodyweight alone like pushups/situps isn't very much... you might notice some results initially - but you will quickly plateau once your body has adapted to the amount of stress pushups/situps is able to provide.

thats where you are wrong
I started doing 5 * 20 but now I am doing a lot more
you always have to do MORE to force your muscles to grow, if you do the exact same amount every day then yeah your muscles wont grow obviously that should be clear
but when you do more your muscles need more power and thus will grow wich seems logical to me
but of course I do combine that workout with free weights so my results are not just push ups and sit ups
lately the push ups and sit ups are my warming up and not my acutal work out
but if you start you should just do push ups and sit ups and later when you are used to doing 500 push ups and 650 sit ups a day you can add weights to your work out
believe me it works , and its all in one Cardio Muscle building and fat burning
