I am at the gym 5-7 days per week. It all depends what you want to accomplish. If you want to burn fat, workout as soon as you wake up before you eat. This will force your body to use fat storages rather than using the energy you consumed before the workout. If you want to build muscle, it doesn't matter when you workout. Eat some carbs about 60-120mins before you go, then have protein (ie. chicken/turkey) within 30mins after your workout. And cut the carbs after you workout.
edit; also, limit cardio on lifting days. just a very brief warm-up/cool-down.
