gold tops bruise bluey-green if you pinch one enough to crush it a little.. also they have little purple "skirts" underneath the cap.. blue meanies are much, much smaller and tend to grow in colder climates.. a little harder to identify.. you'll probably have to bring a friend who knows what to look for.... but then you're probably just going to buy powder or honey-preserved..
i grew up in a coastal country town and we were surrounded by fields that grew them.. probably 50% of the kids tried them.. cheaper than alcohol, more fun than most any other drug except maybe e's (or so i've been told, i don't take drugs anymore.. only had one real e.. it wasn't big when i was in highschool.. and it wasn't much to go by) readily available in a town that shut down after 8pm.. ahh those were the days
