I live in UTC, right next to La Jolla east of the 5 freeway and condo prices are crazy here, are you looking down in the heart of La Jolla near the coast? Some say its a bad time to buy, but I actually think its a pretty good time to buy. San Diego real estate pricing soared up until Sept of last year when it went stagnant and by some reports has fallen about 5% since. Most reports I've read still predict at least 10% growth in the SD market this year, so buying right now while its dipped some may be a good choice. The problem most had last year while buying is that there was such a demand over the supply that properties for sale had multiple bidders that drove up the asking price by as much as 20%. Right now thats not an issue and you can actually bid down the asking price some as supply is exceeding demand.
Having said all that, I'll be moving to AZ in 3 months where I decided to build a 5br home with pool for the same price I could buy a 1 bd condo here in San Diego.
