I was stationed in Khobar Towers in Dharan, Saudi Arabia in '96.
The buildings we lived in were high-rise condos that the Saudi government built in an attempt to lure many of the desert nomads to the city. The nomads chose the desert over hi-rises and they were empty until the gulf war. The Saudi gov fixed them up for the coalition and let us use them.
Marble floors, big screen TV, satellite with hundreds of channels, nice rooms with quality furniture, and plenty of air conditioning. We had it made. Too bad someone drove a tanker truck full of explosives up to our building and blew it up. The next time our unit went to Saudi we got put out in the middle of the desert in a tent compound with a clear field of fire in all directions.
We could put whatever we wanted in our rooms. Most people left shit on their walls when they left so my walls were covered with all kinds of posters and pictures.
Those definately look like temp wartime quarters.
