Fletch,
The idea of Karma is that there IS ultimately reward or punishment for ones actions...each and every action...it is just that the time in between the action and the reward/punishment, as you call the perceived outcomes, can be so long out as the unaware person does not see a correlation.
The idea that one is not 100% responsible and accountable for ones actions is misguided. This coupled with the fact that people tend to only perceive their actions as cause to attain rewards/punishments for themselves or the groups they identify with is also misguided.
So "do as thou wilt", but keep in mind that Karma will hold you accountable for your wants.
