Nude portrait of Kate Moss up for auction
A NUDE portrait of Kate Moss by the artist Lucian Freud, expected to fetch up to £3.5 million, went on display yesterday.
The near life-size painting, Naked Portrait 2002, goes on sale next week.
Moss, 31, posed for Freud when she was pregnant with daughter Lila Grace and is pictured reclining on a bed. The portrait has never been exhibited to the public before.
Potential buyers for the work, expected to fetch between £2.5 million and £3.5 million, are said to include the supermodel herself.
Freud, 82, regarded as Britain?s greatest living artist, rarely paints celebrities. He decided to paint Moss after reading an interview Moss gave to Dazed and Confused in which she said sitting for him was one of her remaining ambitions. The painting took more than six months of sittings to complete.
Bought by a private collector soon after it was finished, the portrait goes under the hammer at Christie?s on 9 February.
