I think it is way harder now to become an icon like Jenna. The older known stars started outside the online world and made their names on regular videos. Then when the internet came up and they put thier sites online people knew them already. And thats what I think what makes the big difference with nowadays.
Just my thoughts on this certain matter ;))))
