So you need only 2 tries!
Heres how you do it.
1st try: take 6 coins and put 3 on each side. If it balances out even, the counterfit coin is in the other triad. Otherwise the counterfit is in the heavier triad.
2nd try: Now you have 3 coins and one of them is surely counterfit. So you take 2 coins and put 1 on each side.
Now you can determine the counterfit coin.
it is heavier. And if it balances out even, the counterfit coin is the third
