I work for a company that helps sites go mobile. At least in the States we view it as a great upsell, but probably not strong enough to thrive on it's own quite yet. So, your surfers probably wouldn't browse to a site on their phones and type in URLs by hand on the keypad, but they might give you an extra 5 bucks a month for a "to-go" version of your PC content.

Outside the US is a totally different story, and is already really popular as a standalone service. largely due to being able to bill directly to your cell bill.
