I quit over two years ago using a combination of things.
1) Zyban. Fucking wonder drug. No cravings, no withdrawals.
2) Get something to chew on. The mental part of smoking can be tamed by chewing on cinnamon sticks, gum (not a big fan of gum), hard candies. Only takes a short while to get over the desire to put something in your mouth.
3) Set goals. Get one of these things:

4) Don't give up. If you go cold turkey, the hardest time is the first 3-4 days. After that it gets easier.
