Clarification of ePassporte's password management:
When ePassporte first launched, we used an encryption scheme which encrypted only the first eight characters of any password. Any characters more than eight were ignored in the login process. Only the first eight characters were verified.
Several months ago, a more robust and stronger encryption method was implemented allowing passwords of up to 32 characters and encryption of the entire password.
If your account was established before the new encryption was implemented, and your password is more than 8 characters long, you may change your password from the ePassporte site and all characters will be encrypted and verified upon log in.
That's a long way to say, there is nothing wrong or broken with ePassporte's password protection.
For safety and security of all accounts we have always recommended that you change your password on a regular basis using a combination of alpha-numeric characters and something obscure.
