Internet Marketing and SEO Strategies @ mplante.com - Volume 2
Today's article will delve into the reasons why I decided to implement inbound AND outbound RSS news feeds at my business site, mplante.com. First and foremost, I should say that, like a lot of webmasters out here, my initial understanding of RSS was very limited. I understood the basics and how they worked, because, it's hard not to go somewhere on the Internet and see RSS in action. Yahoo is a very good example of deployment of RSS. There are plenty other examples out there for you to see. Most of them utilize general news, sports, or weather feeds for general consumption. What I wanted to do was deploy RSS on my site for 2 main reasons: 1. Bring content-relevant news and articles to my site for the purposes of information, as well as giving the major search engines a reason to come back to my site on a consistent and regular basis and increase my sites exposure to the masses. 2. Be able to create outbound RSS feeds to publish my site's news and product offerings to a wide, but targeted base of potential customers. Number 1 is pretty obvious in terms of search engine optimization, and exposure/results. Having fresh, updated and content/keyword-relevant feeds updating my site on a daily basis means I do not have to spend a huge amount of time creating, developing, and writing that content myself! And trust me, I have seen this for myself in my site stats: The Search Engines LOVE fresh and relevant content! Number 2 has a more in depth reasoning behind it: I have personally never been able to get large opt-in mail lists developed, either through impatience, or just not having the time to devote to developing the lists. And SPAM was totally out of the question. Bottom line - Email campaigning can be a very dangerous thing! So - I determined that I needed a way to expose my site to a large but somewhat targeted audience (Hence, # 1 above) and - for those in that audience who might wish to actually follow my newsletters, or find out about my products, I developed a way to get OUTBOUND RSS links out on a regular and consistent basis. I set up several different ways on my site for people to actually subscribe to these links, and receive them via News Readers, My YAHOO, etc. I then published those links to several major RSS feed systems, such as YAHOO....SYNDIC8...and others I will list in future blogs. The point here is: Give people what they want, and then, get the exposure to let them see you are offering what they want! While I will get into more detail here in future blogs about how to do this, and what the net results of these efforts are...I can say here, without a doubt, that the results are nothing short of IMPRESSIVE! To give you an example: When I started this blog yesterday - In the first 24 hours - I have had over 140 hits on the feed, visited by 14 different robots, and 4 different browser types. maybe not HUGE numbers - but - I did this with very little effort...and yet - people are seeing the feed! And that is just this blog! My website feeds are averaging over 125 hits EVERYDAY, with HUNDREDS of hits from the search engine robots - EVERYDAY! I think it is safe to say that I can expect to see truly excellent results on these search engines in the next couple of weeks (Oh yeah - My site is new, only about 1.5 weeks online - pretty impressive huh??????). I truly think I am on the cutting edge of what will perhaps be the next MAJOR innovation in Internet Marketing, and online sales. Why? Because I think this technology has the potential to eclipse email campaigning, safelisting, and all other normal methods of reaching an audience - and then keeping that audience interested in what you are doing, and offering. Ask yourself this question: When you email a mass audience - how many of them actually read your emails? I am sure the statistics are dismally low. And - out of that low percentage - how many actually follow through and actually look at your site, or your product? And - out of that number - how many actually result in a sale? Need I say more on that subject? In the RSS feeds scenario - it is obvious: People who subscribe to your feeds do so because they want what you are offering. They had the choice, and made it. And - that generally means that, if you provide them with rich, relevant content, they will not drop you. They will keep you subscribed...and everytime you update your content - that update gets pushed to THEIR DESKTOP, via their RSS Newsreader! No emails to open - now, is that beautiful, or what? From an Internet Marketing Standpoint - it does not get any better than this for us. Internet Marketing and SEO Strategies @mplante.com - Volume 1
Hello! My name is Michael Plante. I am the owner/operator of an Internet Marketing and online sales site,
http://mplante.com . I have been on the Internet now for over 4 years, working on various sites, and refining my skills as a webmaster. Over this period of time, I, like a lot of other webmasters, have tried most of the usual techniques and strategies to get my site noticed by customers, as well as search engines. Most of the time, the success of these attempts was negligible at best. As a fellow webmaster, I am sure some of you can relate to what I am saying. Over the last several months, I have been learning and researching RSS and Blogging. I came to the determination that these technologies could be extremely useful for the purpose of promoting my website, as well as providing other benefits along the way. So, I made the decision to employ these technologies on my website. I saw several potential benefits that could immediately be derived if applied in the correct manner. Using RSS as an inbound tool, I could set up fresh content and articles across my site that would reflect a high level of relevancy to my site. Using RSS as an outbound tool, I could easily promote my site via RSS news feeds to a huge audience, with little or no cost. Leveraging the inbound and outbound aspects together could make my site much more attractive to major search engines. I am now several weeks into my deployment of RSS. I am extremely happy with the results so far, even though I have had a few stumbles along the way. But hey, no pain, no gain, right? Now - I am far enough along in this venture to begin documenting my methods, and share them with you. My intention is to relate what I have done in laymens terms, so that others can take what I have learned and apply it to their own sites. I will share with you the tools I am using, where to get them, how to use them, and hopefully, this will translate into something you will find valuable for you and your business site. I am a big believer in the potential of RSS and Blogging. And - since it has yet to become totally widespread and mainstream, I truly feel that I am on the leading edge of something that will ultimately prove to be HUGE in the near future. If you would like to see the RSS portion of my website - please feel free to visit anytime. You can get straight to the site by clicking here -
