I've been there. Be careful, it's very lawless in places. Capetown is good, but only in the Waterfront area, which is very nice. Stay the hell away from J'burg, it is so dangerous, that there are high rise office towers, abandoned.
Some other parts are safer as well.
You MUST go and stay at either Mala Mala or Londolozi, 2 of the planet's finest private game reserves and pride of South Africa.
