In the the end times (which many feel we are in) Satan is allowed his final rule and there will be famines and disasters of proportions never seen. Revelations is all about the death of the Earth (it will happen eventually anyway since all stars die and our sun
is one). After the flood God said (Genesis 9:11) that it was a one time event but that doesn't stop Satan from using floods during his reign to make people doubters. Believers shouldn't fear as their time on Earth is but a blink of the eye and death of the flesh is birth of the eternal life.
