The toy sounds like a lot of my kinda fun - getting in touch with nature.
The reaction on/of the individual looks/sounds to me like a newbie error - uneducated/prepared, no one to guide him and possibly done so for the wrong reasons.
Not easy being a chemical whore - with a bit age/time and many trips to the moon you to can walk on water!
