Saying that everybody purchases porn, therefore market research isnt necessary is ridiculous. Everybody purchases food yet millions are spent on researching who is buying what and why. Knowing why your surfer is buying a membership and why he is keeping that membership is crucial to the longevity of your business. Also if you know who is your microtarget customer you can focus your ad dollars to that group thus maximizing your ROI.
I do agree that it is more difficult with adult to get honest answers than with mainstream but it is possible. If you think that Vivid doesnt do market research you're nuts.
