One good reason would be so that the client doesn't muck up the design trying to make changes.
I prefer to be the one to make changes to the work that I did. So I always try to hold onto PSDs for this purpose. In most cases, you should be able to charge for any extra work you might do. If someone really wants the PSDs, they're charged accordingly.
The problem here is that every designer and their brother has gone to designing paysite tours for $200 AND giving the clients the sun and the moon and the PSDs. Plenty of money in the pocket of your porn design hack.
