Well then there's the problem right there. If someone breaks into your house and you only injure them they can come back and sue your ass for medical bills, attempted murder etc.
That's why you have to own a gun and make sure you kill the bastards.
(At least in Colorado I'm not sure about the laws in any other state) It's called the "Make My Day Law"
That's why the crime is so low in Colorado cause every mother fucker (including their mothers, wives, and daughters) owns a gun and the criminals there know that if they break into your home they are risking their life!!

Make my day law requires that the entry be unlawful and the occupant have a reasonable belief that the intruder has committed or intends to commit a crime in the dwelling. If that is the case, the occupant of the dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force including deadly physical force against the other person.
