10-15% of web users are not on Macs, and Mac users can install the WM player anyways.
I'd say 1% maybe 2% at the most have issues with wmv. There will be issues with any format. believe it.
With wmv format you can deliver the same quality as an mpeg in almost half the file size, and when your dealing with promo trailers that is important not only for B/W usage on your end but for the user experience on the consumer end as they can load and play the clips faster. Especially for the slower broadband users that might have a cheap shitty dsl or isdn line. Dialup users it makes an even larger impact as it dramatically reduces their download time to view the same length and quality clip in wmv versus mpeg.
Why would you want to make all those people (98%) download all that extra data in mpeg format just because 1 or 2% of the people have issues with wmv. That doesn't make sense.
and just for the record all my sites videos are in wmv format and I have been encoding this way for a very long time. I have over 250 hours of wmvs and my best site converts less than 1:100 most every day with wmv promo videos on the tour and on the FHG's.
WMV's are fine.
