Just because there isn't a hyphenated domain ranked high for that particular keyword doesn't mean that hyphenated domains are useless. For example, if you do a search at google for "free hardcore porn"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...hardcore+porn+ you will see the majority of listings on the 1st page are hyphenated.
Keep in mind that A LOT of other things determine a good ranking in google such as page rank, link pop, optimization and other good stuff. If you don't know what your doing you'll never get a good ranking, wether you have a hyphenated domain or not.
