What I get out of that conversation is that he wants to be a true Christian, but he is willing to set some of those beliefs aside for the better things in life like having your college education paid for and having the finer things in life.

I guess that was my main problem with religion...those most religious were often those that always found the fault in others and felt they should conform but felt it was ok to ease up on the rules a bit with their own life when it suited them.
