vb 3 has a "re-index" feature when upgrading. It has a pretty good search database but has to go through all of the previous posts. I ran this on a board of around 150k posts and it took a couple hours. Imagine it on 5.5 million.

So yeah, I am willing to bet the search will work... but it'll take a little time.
