I would probably pick a different GFY nic if I were choosing today, I use different outside of webmaster boards. I can understand people wanting to coordinate the IM side of all of their online forum participations into one account.
I don't run ICQ in the background. I fire it up when someone asks that I contact then that way. My friends and family run MSN... I fire it up only when I have time to answer computer questions
