Hmmm -- I think too many people bring a contrived version of themselves to bed, while at the same time expecting that the other person fit a pre-existing ideal that's got nothing to do with reality.
Pretense mated to delusion works for some folks.
But I like to approach sex (especially first-time sex) as MYSELF , with all my decadent idiosyncracies and depraved predilections in tow. In return, I offer acceptance, tolerance and a capacity to enjoy all kinds of sick and twisted things the other person might suggest we do.
