3 years is fair. Personally I feel sorry for any Americans who have to go over to that shithole and deal with all that crap. Its WAR, and people get killed and maimed. I would of probably done the same, those guys are all usually using M60's .50 cal machine guns and those things rip the shit out of humans. If they shot the guy with that I would expect them to do a mercy kill.
War isn't pretty, except on CNN behind a TV, its dirty and people die and people make mistakes and shoot the wrong people it happens. No point putting an innocent solider in jail for longer than 3 years for a mercy killing in war time
