The one thing people don't give me enough credit for over the years is I went so far out of my way to make sure everyone that needed a pass got a pass. I personally handed out passes at every trade show the Ball was a part of. The success of the Players Balls wasn't just because of the talents hired or the celebs showing up. The success was always because I worked my ass off making sure these passes got in the hands of every webmaster. I took the time to explain the details to every single one of the people I gave a pass to.
I wish I could still give them out the care free. But since we trimmed the party down to 2000 people instead of 5000 people, I gave the tickets to the paying sponsors. Man, back in the day, it was pretty scary thinking that I had to fill a venue up with basically everyone attending the trade show for it to appear like a full venue. And I never issued these passes to the public, though they found their way through the crooked door guys taking their tips.
So I'm sad I can't give passes like that anymore, it was free to anyone attending the trade shows for about 6 years until last year when it become a party with passes issued to the sponsors. But hey, I'm also glad it changed because it was a lot of work running around those shows making sure everyone would attend. Reminds me of the things rappers did back in their day, selling tapes out of the trunks of their cars. I worked even harder then that just so we wouldn't look dumb with an empty venue.
I'm glad I had a few passes left last year to give you, you definitely need to attend them all playa.
