No, Marines JOIN and by choice expose themselves to danger. It's more like the poor slobs who died in the twin towers, except that someone on death row knows he is going to die and lives with that every day until it happens. So, it's more like torturing the innocent person and then killing him and then thinking of him as a martyr.
There is no evidence whatsoever that the death penalty performs any practical function. The places which have it are notorious for having MORE capital crime, not less.
