Even if I were to believe the article as being the whole truth and nothing but the truth...the fact is that it is "civilians" in Iraq that are the enemy...Iraq's military forces were defeated in three weeks...so killing "civilians" is to be expected.
In addition...from the very first days of egagement the enemy has used "civilians" as cover...then engaged the coalition forces...the enemy has used the white flag of truce/surrender as cover...then engaged the coalition forces...the enemy has feigned being wounded...or are actually wounded...then have engaged the coalition forces...the enemy are booby trapping their dead...etc.
In the heat of battle...it behooves a soldier to act first and ask questions later...if he has any desire to survive. As for tanks running over people...it is the tank Commanders responsibility not to jeapordize his weapon platform...nor the lives of his men. Stopping a tank to avoid running over some one...alive or dead...in the heat of battle would constitute dereliction of the tank Commanders responsibility. In combat...mission...is the priority...and lives are secondary to the mission.
