Exactly.
Aeon, think about it - if my kid had filled out even one of these applications, he would have put in "college student" as his occupation and the address where he's attending college. If you don't think there are thousands of databases cross referencing that information, you're fooling yourself.
In addition, cell phone companies, utility companies, even grocery stores get that exact same information when you apply for an account with them. It take milliseconds to know the address you put on there is on a college campus, ergo the chances that you attend college are VERY high.
I've been dealing with mailing lists since I worked for my Dad in the 70's and the information that's out there is 1000 times more advanced now. Trust me, they can know it's a college kid, what dorm he lives in, if he buys beer at the store and what kind of toilet paper he prefers without getting one bit of info from the college itself.
