My name is Andrew White and I'm running for School Committee. I feel that the parents are not being heard and they should be. We have issues that need to be addressed from the pre-kindergarten program through high school. We need to have an open line of communication with the administration, the public and the parents of the students in this system.
There is not a great sense of confidence in the ability of communication with the public by the administration. That should not happen. If I am elected to the board, I would use my voice to open up a line of communication for everyone. The board has to face the kindergarten parents that are concerned over the fear that the full-day program may be abolished.
Regarding the payment plans, we need options for the payments other than what is currently offered to us. The middle-school parents will have many concerns about how their children will be shuffled around until 2007 during the construction of the new middle school. The high school parents are going to be concerned about the possibility of a fee being implemented again.
I'm a strong supporter of the inclusion program being implemented, but let's give the teachers the help they need to educate our children. Right now we have two very qualified educators going school to school four hours each week to help teachers in the inclusion classroom. Their schedule is a month behind because of the need the teachers have. Let's get the teachers the help they need now.
I have a lot invested in the school system. I have three children from the high-school level to the pre-kindergarten program. I am currently and will continue to be very involved in education for years to come. I want Melrose to have the best education possible. The children of Melrose are our future. They will be the future leaders of our community. Let's give them what they deserve - the best education we can provide them.
The parents are the best voice of our children. Why don't we listen to them? I will continue to stay involved in the education system no matter how the vote turns out. I hope that the people who decide and who get elected to the board vote for the right reasons, not for the wrong ones. Let's get the candidate that will work hard, not jump into a clique and not vote for the children of Melrose and not for future ambitions or for owed political favors. The children of Melrose deserve the best possible person to represent them. Please support me for the School Committee. I will be the voice for those of us not heard by the administration or the school board.
