I started building web pages in 1994 when I lived in St. Thomas, and quickly developed two online travel magazines to promote toursim in the Virgin Islands.
Sitting in my storm shelter during Hurricane Marilyn's assault on the island, waiting for my roof to blow off, and realizing that my business - based upon a local client base - was being swept into the Caribbean, I came up with 'plan b' - instead of building sites that pleased others, I could build sites that pleased me, and if others didn't like my adult properties, I'd make money when they clicked out.
Most importantly, divorcing myself from having to rely upon a local client base for my income allowed me to live and work wherever I pleased, without fears of forces beyond my control, as long as I had at least electricity and a dial tone.
The rest, as they say, is history...
